Hosts, Japan's grey zone version of aggressive gigolos, are about to find themselves in serious trouble. The predatory practices of these good looking guys with too much hair gel are now punishable
I don’t think the hostess clubs can “ traffic” the men though? Or am I naive? That said , they will happily show up at the office to collect on your tab!
I was wondering if the same sort of practices are common at the female equivalent 'hostess' bars? Being in the same industry and with the same/similar business model, I'd thought they'd also be likely to engage in some of these type of business practices too, but from the news and headlines I'd been able to catch, the focus seems much more on the 'host' equivalent. Thanks for an interesting article
Hey, I requested writing about this topic in the Tokyo Paladin chat and here it is. Probably just a coincidence, but still cool to see. Glad to hear they’re cracking down on this stuff.
This is good news, at last. I’ve gone to Kabukicho a couple times, Akihabara as well. Mostly, the hostess bars in Kabukicho and the girls lining the streets in Akihabara for the maid cafes (as innocuous as they appear to some people) for the most part just make me sad to see. But hey, I’ve always been one of those natural born “captain save-a-ho” guys as I’ve oft been called over the years. I ain’t down with exploitation or coercion. The whole host/hostess bar thing for me is just weird. I used to know the hostess girls back in L.A., and for the most part the guys you’d see there (a girl I used to drive for dragged me in to meet her friends on night) had sociopath/thug written all over them. Here’s different it seems, but then again I never walked into one here. Seems skeezy, wouldn’t want to get myself into a jackpot situation.
Good to see the Japanese police have priorities. I read all that and I still don't think holding your breath for anything is a good idea. That being said, what is Dom Perignom or whatever that was? I'm a cheap date because I love me a $5 bottle of Manischwitz. Concord grape and yes it hits the spot.
If they move on to gaijin bars, my next stay in Kinshicho will look quite different. No way those places are on the level.
I just stayed in Kinshicho again. They definitely cleaned it up.

大変勉強になりました!lots of stuff I didn’t know.
The 青少年を守る親の連絡会 wouldn’t that be 青少年を守る父母の連絡会 if it’s abbreviated セイボレン?
